Paris Whitney Hilton was born on February 17, 1981 in New York. She has three younger siblings, but you can be forgiven for thinking she is an only child due to the slightly swayed media coverage. You may know her sister Nicholai Olivia (AKA Nicky), but there are also two boys, Barron and Conrad. The wealthy family is famous for owning the Hilton Hotel chain and numerous other real estate investments, of which Paris is heir-apparent.
Paris began her socialite career at a young age, attending exclusive parties and edging her way into the gossip columns. As she grew up, she gradually transformed her image through plastic surgery, blue-tinted contact lenses and that bold, blonde hair we are all so familiar with. She is known for promiscuity, narcissism, materialism, and has become an icon of self-promotion. And of course, we can’t forget her famous phrase, “That’s Hot!”
Helping her along the way to stardom has been a string of celeb boyfriends, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio, boxer Oscar De La Hoya, singer Nick Carter, and Australian tennis pro Mark Philippoussis. She has also had a few brushes with the law, most notably the 2007 probation violation which landed her in jail for three days (of a 23 day sentence which was reduced from an initial 45 day sentence).
Basically, wherever Paris has gone, the press has followed. Her celebrity status was boosted in 2004 with the release of “that video” – marketed as One Night in Paris. Although damaging to any reputation she may have built up until that point, the film did somehow make her a household name instantly. Ultimately, it was a great publicity stunt, whether it was an intentional “leak” or not.
Paris Hilton was able to ride on this unwitting success and landed some modeling work. From there, she starred in a couple of commercials and has had numerous cameo appearances in movies such as Zoolander (2001) and The Cat in the Hat (2003). She played a more prestigious part in the 2005 horror movie House of Wax. On the small screen, Paris Hilton has guest appeared in shows such as, “The OC” and was on her own show in 2003’s “The Simple Life” with BFF Nicole Richie.
Bored (perhaps) with focusing her attention on film, Paris Hilton has also recorded a music album and added “singer” to her resume. Too good to go mainstream, she pitched her own label, “Heiress Records,” to release it.
In addition, she has tried her hand at designing, writing, video game marketing and nightclub management. What does the future hold for the heiress? Only time will tell!
